Olubadan Elevates 10 Chiefs, Says Promotion Comes With More Responsibilities

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, has elevated 10 traditional chiefs to higher ranks in the Otun Chieftaincy Line, urging them to see their elevation as a call to greater service to Ibadanland.

The promotion ceremony was held on Friday at the Banquet Hall of the Olubadan Palace, Oke-Aremo, Ibadan.

Addressing the newly elevated chiefs, Oba Ladoja said their promotion was accompanied by greater responsibilities, stressing that “to whom much is given, much is expected.”

The monarch charged the chiefs to work towards the advancement of Ibadanland by promoting peace, love, unity, economic development, security, religious harmony and food sufficiency.

He also urged them to refrain from land grabbing and other criminal activities capable of tarnishing the Olubadan stool.

Speaking on behalf of the newly elevated chiefs, the new Ikolaba Olubadan, Engr. Dauda Kolawole Gbadamosi, assured Oba Ladoja and the Olubadan-in-Council that they would not take the promotion for granted.

He pledged that the newly promoted chiefs would work with the monarch and members of the Olubadan-in-Council to further the development of Ibadanland.

Other chiefs elevated during the exercise include Chief Williams Oyeleke Oyekola as Asaaju Olubadan, Chief Oluyinka Akande as Ayingun Olubadan, Chief Olufemi Olukorede Ogunwale as Aare-Ago Olubadan, and Chief Wasiu Aderoju Aladorin as Lagunna Olubadan.

Also promoted were Chief Abiola Iyiola as Aare-Egbe Omo Olubadan, Chief Dotun Sanusi as Gbonka Olubadan, Chief Akinola Alabi as Aare Onibon Olubadan, and Chief Oladiran Abiodun Alabi as Bada Olubadan.

Dignitaries at the ceremony included the Otun Olubadan, Oba (Sir) Eddy Oyewole; the Otun Balogun, Oba (Dr.) Kolawole Adegbola;Osi Olubadan, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi; Ashipa Olubadan, Oba Salawudeen Amidu Ajibade; Ashipa Balogun, Oba Dauda Abiodun Azees; and Ekerin Balogun, Oba Akeem Mobolaji Adewoyin.

The Iyalode Line was represented by Chief Taye Soyege, Chief Yewande Durosaro and Chief Onibiyo Scott.

Other guests included Mrs. Bola Doherty (MFR), the Iyaloja of Ibadanland, Chief (Mrs.) Iswat Abiola Ameringun; Hon. Bola Fawole, Mogajis, Baales and other invited dignitaries.
