Oyo State Government has unveiled a new cultural anthem as part of efforts to promote, preserve and sustain Yoruba culture, traditions and heritage.
The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun, disclosed this at the third symposium organised to commemorate the World Sango Festival and honour the memory of renowned Yoruba theatre practitioner, the late Duro Ladipo, at the Cultural Centre, Ibadan.
Olatunbosun said the state had completed both the audio and video versions of the cultural anthem, adding that it would henceforth be played at all cultural and related programmes across the state immediately after the state anthem.
According to him, the initiative represents another milestone in the state’s efforts to preserve its rich cultural heritage and ensure that Yoruba traditions remain relevant to present and future generations.
The commissioner said the symposium is being sustained to preserve the legacies of personalities who dedicated their lives to the promotion of African culture and to ensure that their contributions were not forgotten.
The gathering brought together stakeholders in Yoruba culture to celebrate the World Sango Festival and honour the enduring contributions of Duro Ladipo, who was renowned for his portrayal of the iconic Sango figure and his contribution to Yoruba theatre and cultural preservation.
