A one-month-old baby girl has been rescued by the Oyo State Police Command after she was allegedly sold for ₦2 million, with the child’s mother and the owner of the health facility where she was delivered arrested.
The incident occurred in Ido Local Government Area of Ibadan, following a report by the baby’s grandmother, Mary Amos, who raised the alarm over the disappearance of her granddaughter on October 15.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, disclosed the development in a statement on Friday, saying investigations were ongoing to arrest other suspects linked to the alleged sale.
According to the police, the child’s mother allegedly implicated the owner of the health facility, 40-year-old Dr Adeleke Ebenezer, and Hassan Oludunni, whom she accused of luring her into the arrangement and facilitating the baby’s sale to Odunayo Folawewo.
Police investigations reportedly revealed that ₦2 million was involved in the transaction, with the mother allegedly receiving ₦1 million, while Adeleke and Oludunni received ₦500,000 each.
The police said the baby had been rescued and Adeleke arrested, while efforts were ongoing to apprehend Folawewo and other persons connected to the alleged offence.
The command urged members of the public to report suspected cases of child trafficking and other offences involving vulnerable persons.
Residents were advised to contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on its toll-free emergency line, 615, or the police control room on 08081768614 and 07055495413 for emergencies.
