Killer Herdsmen: Fani-Kayode commends Sunday Igboho’s Bravery, criticises government for irresponsibility

A former minister and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode has criticised the government’s irresponsibility of protecting the lives of the citizens, which he said has birthed the emergence of the Sunday Igbohos to show bravery and resist the continuous killings, raping and destruction of farmlands by suspected herders, especially in the Southwest.

Fani-Kayode made the assertions on Thursday during a solidarity visit with Sunday Igboho that led to a closed-door meeting for more than three hours at his Soka residence in Ibadan, the Oyo capital.

Reacting to recent calls to license carriage and usage of AK-47 rifles by Fulani herdsmen to protect themselves and their cows, Fani-Kayode affirmed that if such a licence is ever considered, local residents must also enjoy the same privilege of bearing arms to protect themselves against suspected killers, bandits and rampaging herdsmen.

However, FFK as he is fondly called said the best way to go to resolving the security challenges would be for the government at all levels to do the needful, which is to find a lasting solution of providing security for the people as constitutionally expected so that people won’t have to consider bearing arms.
