Alaafin Stool: Oyo Kingmakers Clear 58 Princes, Disqualify 61

The kingmakers of Oyo town popularly known as the Oyomesi, who are responsible for the selection of the new Alaafin of Oyo have cleared fifty-eight (58) princes for the position of the Alaafin of Oyo.

Recall oyoaffairs.net had reported that 119 princes have indicated interest to succeed the departed monarch, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, who reigned for 52 years before joining his ancestors at the age of 83.

It was however gathered on Friday that only 58 princes have been cleared by the kingmakers and 61 of the contestants were disqualified.

The council of Baba Iyaji, Agunpopo, Arole, Ọna Isokun and Atingisi reportedly did the screening that approved 58 out of the 119 applicants, in the presence of Oyo State government officials.

Meanwhile, it’s been confirmed that the last screening is expected to produce one person, whose name will be sent to the Oyo State government for confirmation.
