Amotekun and Herdsmen Clash in Ibarapa, 7 killed

Amotekun and some Fulani herdsmen have reportedly been engaged in a heated clash at Aiyete, Ibarapa North, Oyo State.

Reports getting to our desk gave an account of the incident, saying the clash started at Okebi village on Saturday morning, but the cause of the conflict is yet to be verified at the time of getting this report.

An eyewitness, Saliu, a resident of the area, spoke with our correspondent and ascertained that seven persons had been killed. Further adding that about seven houses were also razed.

Saliu said, “Alhaji Usman Okebi and his two sons were killed. We don’t know what caused the fight. Some persons were shot and injured.”

“The number of people killed has increased to seven. Those who were shot and ran away later died in the bush.”

A different source said the conflict was between the Amotekun corps and the Bororo people, noting that some persons were killed but could not tell which party suffered more casualties.

Meanwhile, the Commandant of Amotekun in Oyo State, Col. Olayinka Olayanju (rtd), was contacted, and he said he was on his way to the place to confirm what happened.

He said, “I heard the same thing, and I am on my way there now.”

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, when contacted, and he said the DPO at Aiyete Police Division had moved to the community to evaluate the conflict.
