The Oyo State Road Transport Management Authority (OYRTMA) has restated its commitment to enacting the state’s Road Traffic Law to maintain the sanity of the state’s road and ensure safety of road users.
Speaking to Newsmen in Ibadan, the Executive Chairman of the Authority, Mogaji (Dr.) Akin Fagbemi emphasized on the policies the agency would embark upon in 2021 to ensure safety, sanity and an itch-free year, reasonably devoid of road crashes.
The Executive Chairman said: “the Authority, under the present administration of His Excellency, Governor Seyi Makinde is not ready to leave any stone unturned in its quest to ensuring free vehicular movements as well as safety of motorists on roads across the State. It is to this end that we shall commence apprehension and prosecution of motorists, either private or commercial, who willfully or otherwise jettison the basic road safety tips including the use of seat-belts, overloading, making phone calls while driving or using uncompleted/expired vehicle particulars.”
The OYRTMA Boss said: “It would interest you to know that OYRTMA is statutorily charged with the responsibility of enacting both the Federal and State Road Traffic Laws in Oyo State, hence the law would be blind to everyone no matter how highly placed.
He explained that the era of lawlessness is long gone and advised the residents of the State to turn a new leaf particularly as the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has indicated it’s commitment to focusing more on safety on the federal highways and expressways.
