The Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on Tuesday, signed into law the state Security Network Agency Bill, 2020 codename Amotekun.
This is coming 7 days after the state house of assembly observed the 3rd reading of the bill and passed it into law.
The brief event held at the Exco Chamber of the governor’s office, Secretariat, Ibadan was witnessed by the deputy governor, engineer Rauf Olaniyan; the speaker, Oyo state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin; the Secretary to the state government, Mrs. Olubamiwo Adeosun; the head of the service, Mrs. Ololade Agboola, honorable commissioners, Oyo state security council chiefs, amongst others.
While signing the bill into law, governor Makinde stated that government will not attach the Amotekun Corps to anybody or groups, no matter how highly placed they are; rather, the corps will complement the efforts of all security agencies in the state at combating crime and criminality especially in the remote areas of the state.
He added that the corps would work within the framework of the Nigeria Police Force’s community policing strategies.
Governor Makinde noted that the passage and signing of State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps bill into law will aide the influx of investors into the state.
He, however, sent a strong warning to criminally minded persons living in Oyo state to flew before the long arm of the law catches up with them.
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo state is the second governor in the six states of the Southwest region to sign the bill into law, 5 days after his counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State, signed the bill establishing Amotekun in his state.
