Oyo Government Approves Purchase of 10 Ambulances, Sets to Create Office of the Public Defender

Governor Seyi Makinde has approved the purchase of 10 brand new ambulances for the state ministry of health as part of its efforts to restructure the health sector of the state.

The state Commissioner for Health, Dr. Bashir Bello, stated this while briefing the governor’s office correspondents shortly after the Esco meeting, presided over by the Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde.

Dr. Bello noted that 3 of the ambulances will be used to constitute the state emergency unit while the remaining 7 will be distributed to each of the administrative zone of Oyo state.

Speaking on the activity of the state government to prevent the outbreak of coronavirus, the commissioner said the government has created a rapid response and monitoring department as watch-dog over the epidemic in Oyo state.

He added that 6 isolated areas have been created in case of an outbreak in Oyo state; while notification has been sent to market leaders, institutions and organizations in the state to maintain the handwashing culture while the government has provided hand sanitizer to all Ministries of the Oyo state government.

Also speaking, the state commissioner for justice, professor Oyelowo Oyewo, started that the Oyo state government is set to establish the Office of the Public Defender that will be saddled with the responsibility of providing legal aid, legal advice and legal representation to the Oyo state citizens.

The commissioner explained that the establishment of the office will help members of the public who could not afford to pay for the service of a lawyer, get it free through the Office of the Public Defender of the Oyo state government.

Professor Oyelowo, however, hinted that the Amotekun Corps will begin operation in June 2020.

In his remark, the state commissioner for education, Bar. Olasunkanmi Olaleye disclosed that his Ministry has received 156thousand applications from teachers and intending administrative and clerical staff via the ongoing teacher’s recruitment in the state.

The commissioner noted that the ministry is already sorting out the application submitted and the CBT for the bonafide applicants will come up in April 2020.

The commissioner, who promised the applications that the CBT exercise will be transparent, charged them not to give money in respect of the exercise, rather, they should trust their qualifications.
