Christmas: 6 Die, 12 Injured in Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Accident

Six persons have been confirmed dead while 12 others sustained varying degrees of injuries today, December 25, 2021 in an accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus and Iveco trailer opposite ELANLAN construction zone, on Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, Mr. Ahmed Umar, while confirming the incident to newsmen in Abeokuta, disclosed that the crash occurred at 3:20am.

He added that the suspected causes of the crash were road obstruction, excessive speed and loss of control on the part of the trailer driver.

The sector commander explained that 12 people sustained injuries while six persons died .

He said that the two vehicles involved included a Toyota Hiace bus marked MK A567 XZ and an Iveco trailer with registration number XF 854 KTN .

The FRSC boss noted that the injured victims were taken to different hospitals, saying some were taken to Lagos State Accident and Emergency Unit, Ojota, some to Divine Touch Hospital, Ibafo and some others to Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu.

Umar stated that the deceased were deposited at Idera Mortuary sagamu .

“A total sum of N127,900 was recovered from the crash scene,” he said.

The sector commander advised motorists to drive cautiously and always obey rules and regulations.

Earlier, there were reports that seven persons died while seven others sustained varying degrees of injuries in an accident involving a Mercedes Benz luxury bus at Ososa bridge on the Sagamu- Benin expressway today at 12: 20am.
