Commonwealth Games: Oyo Govt Celebrates Three Weightlifters for Winning Medals

All the three weightlifters from Oyo, Rofiat Lawal, Taiwo Liadi and Mary Osijo have brought victory home by winning medals at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

Rofiat Lawal won gold, Taiwo Liadi won silver, while Mary Osijo won bronze.

In the meantime, the Oyo State government has congratulated the trio for the feats achieved.

In his congratulatory message, the Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Seun Fakorede described their win as motivation to the entire youth in Oyo State.

Fakorede said their wins will spur other aspiring youth to excel in sports, adding that they have become models worth emulating.

“Your victory has not just put Nigeria on the global map in the world of sports but Oyo State also”, he said.

The commissioner further assured that the present administration led by Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, will not stop investing in youth and sports development in order to encourage them to do more.
