Court Acquits Agidigbo FM Owner, Oriyomi Hamzat, Others of Murder After Five Years

The High Court in Ibadan has acquitted and discharged ace broadcaster and owner of Agidigbo FM, Oriyomi Hamzat and three others of murder charges brought against them by the Department of Public Prosecution.

According to the broadcaster, the case which has been on since July 2017, was transferred from the Magistrate Court to the High Court.

Others discharged of the murder charges are Idowu Ibrahim, Bashiru Muhammed, Yusuf Ajisafe and a pregnant lady.

The Department of Public Prosecution alleged that Oriyomi murdered a child in July 2017 in Ibadan.

The offence, the DPP said, contravened the provisions of Section 319 (1) of the Criminal Code Law of Oyo.

Delivering judgment, the judge held that reasonable doubt is a legal standard of proof required to validate a criminal conviction which the DPP could not provide.

“However, the prosecuting counsel had no witnesses”, Oriyomi said.
