….As Minister Of Health Warns That Vaccines May Not Arrive As Soon As Expected
Figures released by the Nigeria Centre of Diseases Control (NCDC) on Tuesday revealed that Oyo State recorded 103 new confirmed cases coronavirus on Tuesday, highest so far since the beginning of 2021.
With this, Oyo clinched the position of the fifth most infected state in Nigeria with 4,426 confirmed cases in total.
It would be noted that, since January 1, Oyo State has been witnessing a steep increase in the number of cases, with 51 cases recorded on the 2nd, 57 on the 7th and 91 new cases on the 8th of January.
As at today, 13th January, the number of Covid-19 cases recorded so far in 2021 totals at 487.
Meanwhile, NCDC also revealed that 1,270 new cases were reported the same day, from 22 states with Lagos leading with 435 new cases, almost half of the daily total.
The commercial city is Nigeria’s coronavirus epicentre with a total of over 36,000 confirmed cases and more than 255 deaths.
Subsequently, the Minister of State for Health, Mr Olorunmbe Mamora, has warned Nigerians against complacency in containing the COVID-19 pandemic as the much-awaited vaccines may not arrive the country as soon as expected.
