Dr. Adewale Kolapo Kareem (AKK) has responded to Nigeria’s Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, regarding his recent remarks made during a meeting with APC executives in Ibadan. Dr. AKK, among other points, confidently asserted that he stands as the premier candidate to govern Oyo State in 2027. The statement reads in full:
“I welcome with open arms the recent words from my brother, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, as he sets the record straight on the 2027 Oyo APC gubernatorial race. His acceptance that competition brings out the best and his firm stand against any imposition sits deeply with me. This clarity is a breath of fresh air, and it shows we’re on the same page about letting the process decide our leader. I applaud his wisdom in recognising that a free and fair primary is the way forward, and I’m encouraged by this spirit of fairness. It’s a strong foundation for what we can build together as a party.
No doubt, this moment calls us to a higher purpose: to be governed by the best among us, chosen through a process we all trust. I believe we must all start preparing now to work hand in hand after the primary, setting aside personal ambitions for the greater good of Oyo State and the APC. A united front will show the people we’re genuine and serious about progress, not division. We must use this opportunity to prove that our party can rise above petty squabbles and deliver a government that serves every corner of our state.”

I’m confident that together—Folarin, Adelabu, and all of us—we can turn our shared passion into a force that reclaims Oyo State for the progressives, and one that shows the world what APC can do when we stand as one.
As we approach the future ahead of us, again, I humbly put myself forward as the best candidate for this job. My Western education, years of teaching, researching and leading, and the exceptional quality of fearing God have shaped me into a leader ready to serve. Recently, my grand entry into APC, backed by over 5,000 members of the Aseyori Support Group (ASG), brought a wave of energy to our party. The great attendance at that event, including our former Deputy Governor, Chief Moses Alake Adeyemo and other illustrious leaders of our great party showed the trust people have in this movement.
