Eld-el-Fitr: NSCIA Urges Muslims to Look Out for Shawwal Today

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has urged Muslims to search for the new crescent of Shawwal today, April 30, 2022.

If sighted, the new crescent will mark the completion of this year’s Ramadan fast.

This is contained in a statement issued by the council’s director of administration, Arc. Zubairu Haruna Usman-Ugwu, on behalf of its president-general, the Sultan of Sokoto, Saad Abubakar.

The NSCIA said; “The President-General enjoins the Nigerian Muslim to look out for the new Crescent of Shawwal

“If the crescent is sighted by Muslims of impeccable character, then His Eminence would declare Sunday, May 1st, 2022, as the 1st of Shawwal and the day of ‘Idul-Fitr. However, if the crescent is not sighted that day, then Monday, May 2nd, 2022, automatically becomes the day of ‘Idul-Fitr.

“In addition to the established and traditional Islamic leaders in each locality contacted to report credible and positive sighting of the Crescent of Shawwal 14434, members of the National Moon Sighting Committee (NMSC) can be contacted to report the credible and positive sighting of the Crescent of Shawwal14434.”
