FLOODING: Makinde Provides Succour, Distributes Relief Materials to Victims Across Oyo State

The ‘Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State government in collaboration with the National Emergency Management Authority has distributed relief materials worth millions of naira to victims of the 2022 flood disaster in the state, to ameliorate their suffering.

While speaking at the flag-off of the distribution of relief materials to local government chairmen for onward distribution to vulnerable indigenes, the governor who was represented by his deputy, Barr. Bayo Lawal said the government is responding to the needs of the teeming populace who have been traumatised by the prevailing flood hazards in the communities.

Lawal, who is the chairman of the task force on Oyo State Emergency Management Agency (OYSEMA), noted that the present administration is committed to the effective operation of the state agency to boost the resilience of the state to disaster risks.

According to him, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has graciously approved the procurement of two new Hilux vehicles for the smooth operations of the agency.

In his words: “Today’s exercise is a function of necessity to assuage the affected people and prevent secondary disasters that would aggravate further deprived livelihoods, and create poverty among the people”.

Delivering his welcome address, the Secretary of Oyo State Emergency Management Authority, Femi Opatumbi said the present administration deemed it fit to provide relief materials to the affected people as a way of assuaging their feelings.

He said today’s event is borne out of the decisive, timely response and collective will of the present administration to always cater for the welfare of the citizenry.

Meanwhile, the event had in attendance, elected local government chairmen and chairpersons, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matter, Hon Olasunkanmi Olaleye, traditional rulers from Ibadan, Oke-Ogun and Ogbomoso and representative of National Emergency Management Authority.
