In a bid to alleviate the transportation burden faced by corps members in Oyo State, Governor ‘Seyi Makinde has announced the provision of palliative transportation from the Permanent Orientation Camp to their respective local government areas. This announcement was made during the closing parade of the three-week orientation course for the 2023 Batch B Stream I, which took place at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Iseyin.
The governor, represented by Deputy Governor Barr Bayo Lawal, expressed his delight in providing this assistance to the corps members. He revealed that he had been informed by NYSC officials that the corps members had already organized commercial buses to transport them to their designated local government areas. The governor’s gesture aims to ease the financial burden associated with transportation in light of the current economic challenges.
Furthermore, Governor Makinde assured the corps members that their transportation fares would be reimbursed by their respective local government authorities. He encouraged them to embrace their roles as change agents in their host communities, emphasizing that the nation greatly needs their solution-driven ideas and innovations to overcome the prevailing economic challenges.
During the event, Mr. Abel Oche, the State Coordinator of NYSC, delivered a welcome address. He urged corps employers to prioritize the welfare and development of the corps members assigned to their establishments, as this would enable them to maximize their potential.
In total, over two thousand corps members who participated in the twenty-day orientation course received their letters of posting, indicating their places of primary assignment for the mandatory one-year national service.
