Late gospel minister Bolaji Olarewaju, fondly known as Big B, was laid to rest today in Ibadan, Oyo State, on 28 May.
The remains of the deceased were interred at the All Souls’ Private Cemetery in Ido, Ibadan, in the presence of his wife, siblings, family members, and well-wishers.
Prior to his burial, a series of events were held in his honour, including a night of praise and testimony in Lagos and Ibadan on 26 and 27 May.
Many of his colleagues from the gospel music industry attended, including Dunsin Oyekan, Tosin Bee, Mike Abdul, Bidemi Olaoba, Beejay Sax, Gbenga Adenuga, Yetunde Are, Bois Olorun, and Akintayo, among others.
The ministers took turns to eulogise Big B, praising his ability to connect people and emphasising his role as a bridge-builder.
During the burial ceremony on 28 May, Bishop T.V. Adelakun stressed that while Big Bolaji lived a life of impact, everyone should emulate him, noting that life is measured not by duration but by contribution.
He said, “Life is too short. Some live a hundred years but make no particular impact in any endeavour. Life is about donation, not duration. We must all strive to leave this world better than we found it.”
Other clergymen present included Pastor Austin Ologbese, Bishop Femi Emmanuel, Pastors Femi Oduwole, and Sola Oludoyi, among others.
During the tribute session, Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi and gospel music icon Tope Alabi spoke on the importance of love in all aspects of life.
“Bolaji was family to me. He was deeply passionate about the body of Christ and the advancement of the Gospel. His passing is a rude shock, but in all things, we must thank God. He has played his part, and we must emulate his passion and generosity,” said Reverend Mother Esther Ajayi.
In her tribute, Minister Tope Alabi urged everyone to live a life accountable to God.
“This is a painful loss for the body of Christ, but we must continue to glorify God because Big B loved Him. He lived for God and left an indelible mark by touching lives. My charge to the rest of us is: How do we want to be remembered? We must let love lead and do all we can to advance Christ’s kingdom,” she said.
Bolaji Olarewaju was a celebrated worship minister and an ordained pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG). He passed away at the age of 50 and is survived by his wife and two children.
