Gov Makinde Reacts to Attacks in Igangan, Says Security Agencies Now In Control




Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has called on residents of the state to remain calm, saying that the security agencies are aware of the fresh attack by bandits in Igangan, one of the towns in Ibarapa North local government of the State, and have taken control of the situation.


This was contained in a brief remark posted on the official Facebook timeline of the Governor.


According to the post, the Governor said that he received the news of the attack on the residents of Igangan early this morning.


Gov Makinde said: “I have received the shocking news of the attacks on residents of Igangan, Ibarapaland, in the early hours of this morning.”


“I am currently being briefed on the incidents. I urge residents to remain calm as security operatives are now in control of the situation.”


“Reports from yet to be confirmed sources say that suspected bandits numbering about 50 invaded Igangan around 11 pm on Saturday on more than 20 motorcycles. “


The gunmen allegedly opened fire and killed more than 20 people.


The Palace of the Asigangan as well as a popular petroleum station were also razed.
