Governor Makinde leads Government Officials On Walk Against Corruption

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibadan Zonal office, this Monday, staged a peaceful rally across Ibadan metropolis to raising the consciousness of the public against various forms of corruption.

The event which kick started at Dugbe in Ibadan had in attendance EFCC officials, coalition of civil society organisations, Political stakeholders and top government officials in the Oyo state cabinet.

Addressing the rally, the Ibadan EFCC Zonal Head, Mr. Friday Ebelo said the rally was organized in commemoration of this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day.

The Zonal head noted that Corruption remains the most potent threat to human existence. And It has also been identified as the ultimate potential impediment to the realisation of the Sustainable Development Goals proposed for full actualisation by the year 2030.

He, however, urged Nigerians to unite in the fight against corruption which he said, was restricting the nation’s development .

In order to break the menace of corruption, Ebelo urged the states and federal government to strengthen the anti-corruption agencies and the judiciary to speed up graft cases and bring offenders to book to serve as deterrence to others.

Governor Seyi Makinde, who led other top government officials to the rally to drum up support for EFCC maintained that his administration will not do anything that will halt the agency’s aggressive anti-corruption campaigns, rather, it would support it.

Governor Makinde said his administration would stand firm to be counted in the fight against corruption. Noting that all hands must be on the deck to fight what he described as a monster so as to achieved corruption-free Nigeria.

This year’s International Anti-Corruption Day edition is themed: Zero Tolerance To Corruption.
