Governor Makinde Meets 68 LGAs, LCDAs Caretaker Chairmen, Discuss Security, LGAs’ Elections

The Oyo state governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde has mandated the 33 local government caretaker chairmen and 35 local Council development areas chairpersons to set up security committees in their domains to tackle the predicted spike in the rate of crime and criminality during the ember months.

Governor Makinde gave the directive this Wednesday during a meeting with the 68 LGAs and LCDAs caretaker chairmen, held at the house of chiefs, Secretariat, Agodi, Ibadan.

Governor Makinde assured the caretaker chairmen that funds will be released to them through the office of the Commissioner, Local Government and chieftaincy matters, Barrister Bayo Lawal to strengthen security architectures of their areas.

The Governor added that the process to conduct elections into local government areas of the State has commenced, noting that a committee will be set up in weeks to come and will be saddled with the responsibility of investigating works performed by the caretaker chairmen.

He added that the qualification of any of the caretaker chairmen to participate in the forthcoming local government elections will depend on their performances and he will not impose any candidate on the people.

You would recall that the Oyo State Governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde had nominated eight eminent personalities to constitute board members, Oyo State Independent Electoral Commission, OYSIEC, ahead of the upcoming local government elections in the state.
