Oyo State-owned Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso, has been named the most outstanding state-owned university of the year.
This was disclosed at a virtual award ceremony held on Friday by the first-ever Education Awards and Lecture.
Topping the list of outstanding Public Universities was Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, while Gregory University, Abia State, was named the outstanding private university.
In a statement released by the Chairman, Screening Committee for the SNEAwards, Rev. Honey Olawale on Monday, the program was organized by the South West, North West and South East Awards, a Nigerian regional socio-economic assessment body, in collaboration with the South African-based Africa Skills Centre.
27 University dons were awarded the “Outstanding lecturer of the year” prize due to their immense contribution to academics and research in the country and the world at large. Several other distinguished Nigerians also emerged as Ambassadors of Education.
The Birthright Academy, Port Harcourt, Hallmark Secondary School, Info-Chrystal Land School, Markurdi were unable to be separated and shared the “outstanding school of the year” award in a remarkable tie.
Winners at the award program included; Prof Gregory Ibeh who received the National Education Icon of the year while Prof Ladokun Olusola of the Lead City University Ibadan, Prof Ajayi Adetutu of Augustine University, Ilara-Epe, Prof Babatunde Ajayi of the Federal University of Technology, Akure and about 20 other lecturers were honored as outstanding lecturers.
The virtual Academic award program was graced by no fewer than 20 professors cutting across various fields, 10 holders of the Philosophy Degree (Ph.D.) and several captains of industry.
