I honour the memory of our gallant officers – Alaafin Mourns Late COAS, 10 others

The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba (Dr.) Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi has emphasized the importance of citizens appreciating Nigerian soldiers for their efforts in combating insurgency and protecting the country from foreign threats.

The Oba shared this in a condolence message to the Federal Government, signed by his Director of Media and publicity; Bode Durojaiye. He also added that the deaths of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Attahiru Ibrahim, and ten other soldiers in a plane mishap would spur the men of the Nigerian Army to give their all in the defense of the Nigerian people and the country.

Apart from expressing his condolences to President Muhammadu Buhari, the Alaafin stated that he regarded the late Chief of Army Staff and ten others as a special breed of men who were carrying out a noble mission for their country and asked the Federal Government to take all necessary steps to resolve the problems confronting the Armed Forces in their operations against insecurity in the country.

In his words: “the nation is very proud of our military officers and men and grateful for their dedication and commitment to the defense of the civilian population against terrorists and violent extremists. Their patriotic and courageous service to the nation should not be allowed to be in vain.”

“I also seize this opportunity to pay tributes to those men and women currently engaged in Internal Security Operations, particularly the ongoing fight against insurgency, terrorism, and armed banditry in some parts of the country. Despite the global Coronavirus Pandemic, these gallant officers and soldiers have remained steadfast in the difficult task of restoring peace and security in our nation.”

“As a Traditional Ruler, I honour the memory of our gallant officers and men who have paid the supreme sacrifice to keep the country united as one entity. The nation remains grateful for the efforts and sacrifice of the Armed Forces especially in the fight against insurgency and other internal security challenges confronting Nigeria”.

The Oyo State monarch also emphasized the need for citizens to guard the unity of the nation jealously as it was won at great cost.

“The situation in the country also serves as a reminder for our citizens to desist from divisive actions and comments that could jeopardize the unity and progress of the nation. Nigeria’s strength lies in her diversity”.

The Federal Government, the Alaafin also stated, should continue to do everything within its power to ensure that our gallant soldiers get the weapons, equipment, welfare, and logistics support they require to completely rout the insurgents and restore full security and normalcy to affected parts of the country.

“In terms of equipment and logistics, kudos must be given to the Federal. Government for its considerable progress since the insurgency started. There is, therefore, need to continue to improve in that regard until military operations are successfully concluded,”
