Ibadan Court Remands Man for Allegedly Defiling, Impregnating 13-Year-Old Stepdaughter

A Magistrates’ Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, has on Thursday, remanded a 41-year-old man, Joshua Ayeni at the Agodi Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling and impregnating his 13-year-old stepdaughter.

According to reports, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) charged the defendant on two counts of defilement and impregnation.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant resides in Molete area of Ibadan.

The Prosecution Counsel, Olurotimi Afe, told the court that Ayeni, in January, defiled his stepdaughter who lived with him and his wife without the minor’s consent, while also alleging that the defendant impregnated the 13-year-old girl.

He opined that the offence contravened Sections 34 (1) and 35(1) and was punishable under Sections 34 (2) and 35 (2) of the Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006.

In the meantime, the Magistrate, Patricia Adetuyibi, who ordered the defendant’s remand pending advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP), adjourned the matter till October 20 for mention.
