Ibadan Court Remands Man for Defiling 11-Year-Old Daughter

A Family Court in Iyaganku, Ibadan, Oyo State, on Thursday ordered that a 32-year-old man, Kareem Sarafa, be remanded in Abolongo Correctional Centre for allegedly defiling his 11-year-old daughter at their residence at Idi-Osun, Papa, in the Ibadan area of the state.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in the state charged Sarafa with defilement.

The prosecution counsel, Afe Olurotomi, told the court that Sarafa, sometime in December 2022, defiled his daughter, 11, at Ile-Ejo, Idi-Osun, Papa area, Ibadan, where the man lived with his family.

According to the prosecutor, the offence is contrary to the provisions of Section 34 (1) and punishable under Section 34 (2) of the Oyo State Child Rights Law, 2006.

In the meantime, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs P. O. Adetuyibi, who did not take Sarafa’s plea for lack of jurisdiction, ordered that he should be remanded pending legal advice from the Directorate of Public Prosecutions.

The matter has, however, been adjourned till April 27, 2023 for mention.
