IBEDC Staff Electrocuted in Ibadan

It was a sad day for residents of Odo ona kekere area in Oluyole Local Government Area of Ibadan after a staff of the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company, IBEDC (name withheld) died from electrocution, while trying to repair a fault on a transformer at Ababeji area of Odo-ona kekere.

It was gathered that the IBEDC staff was beckoned upon by one of the landlords in the area fix the light, which was low the previous day, after the distribution company brought light, which did not reach some areas prompting residents to switch to other lines.

It was also gathered that before the official started working on the transformer in the presence of traders and residents, the man’s partner advised that the light should be removed in the office, but the IBEDC staff told them not to worry.

While working on the transformer, the distribution company restored light and the whistle blew for a long time and at that point, the IBEDC official who had climbed the ladder and tightened his belt to the pole, was motionless and bent on the pole.

His partner who did not climbed the pole but was watching proceedings on the ground, quickly mounted the pole to resuscitate him but the official remained motionless to the extent that the gloves on his hand were stiffed on the pole and quickly pushed him to the ground, from the pole.

After falling from the pole, traders and residents quickly rushed to his rescue, but his body was stiffed and was gasping for breath, amidst prayers by people for quick recovery.

He was quickly conveyed to an hospital where he was confirmed dead and efforts to reach the lead media relations of the I.B.E.D.C, Busolami Tunwase, proved futile as of the time of filing this report.
