The Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) has announced that incompetency and usage of substandard materials to minimise cost of production, caused the building collapse which occurred on Thursday at Awosika, Bodija, Ibadan.
The incident which occurred around 5:45am when Muslim faithful were going for prayers, was said to have affected a building situated adjacent a new generation bank at Awosika area, Ibadan North Local Government, Oyo State.
The Oyo Coordinator, Standards Organisation of Nigeria, Adetoye Adeyinka; while reacting after he examined the cause of the collapse alongside his team, called on builders to always purchase quality materials with the approval of MANCAP.
He urged contractors to always reach out to relevant and certified agencies for sensitisation and advice, on how to go about construction of standard storey building in Ibadan North Local Government.
Recall, oyoaffairs.net had on Thursday reported the collapse of a five storey-building under construction in Ibadan. The building was said to be a hotel.
Meanwhile, according to reports, seven injured persons have so far been rescued from the rubble of the building. However, it was yet to be ascertained if any life was lost in the incident.
