INEC confirms Olubadan’s son, Asawale Asanike as Accord Assembly candidate for Ib’SouthEast Constituency 1

Prince Ibrahim Asawale Oloyede Asanike, son of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Yesufu Oloyede Asanike, has been confirmed as the authentic candidate of the Accord political party to contest for the Ibadan Southeast Constituency 1 seat in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

His confirmation followed the publication of his name on Wednesday by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, on its candidate nomination portal.

A copy of the portal listing was made available to MOUTHPIECE NGR.

Prince Asawale Asanike, a grassroots politician and businessman, had dumped the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, earlier this year to pitch his tent with the Accord Party.

He is a close ally of Dr Oriyomi Hamzat, the Ibadan-based radio broadcaster and Chief Executive Officer of Agidigbo FM, who is also the governorship candidate under the Accord platform.

Sources within the party said Asanike’s decision to join Accord was influenced by his long-standing relationship with Hamzat and his desire to run on a platform that prioritizes people-centered governance.

Since joining the party, Asanike has been a staunch supporter of Hamzat’s governorship ambition, mobilizing support across Ibadan and leveraging his family name and community ties.

As the son of the late Olubadan, Oba Yesufu Oloyede Asanike, the Accord candidate comes from one of Ibadan’s most respected royal families.

Political observers say his royal background, combined with his grassroots engagement, positions him as a strong contender in the Ibadan Southeast Constituency 1 race.

Party stakeholders, however, described his emergence as a boost for Accord in the constituency, noting that his name recognition and connection to the people could give the party an edge in the upcoming election.

Speaking after his confirmation, Asanike thanked Dr Oriyomi Hamzat, party leaders and members for the confidence reposed in him. He pledged to prioritize education, youth empowerment, security, and infrastructural development if elected.
