Barrister Adebayo Lawal has been sworn in as the new Deputy Governor of Oyo state.
Justice Munta Abimbola, Chief Justice of the State, inaugurated him as the incumbent chairman of Oyo state housing corporation as Makinde’s New Deputy on Monday (today).
Congratulating Barr. Lawal on his new position, Governor Makinde at the governor’s office today said;
“Your new position is an evidence that you excel in your previous role, but for us, as the saying goes, the reward for hard work is more work, and that’s why we’re giving you more work”.
“The position of the deputy governor is a position of trust. Our masters are the people of Oyo State, and our responsibility is to continue to serve them to the best of our abilities and deliver good governance to them.
So let me encourage you to put the interest of the good people of Oyo state first …and you will continue to supervise the Oyo state housing commission even from this moment. And also, Oyo State Road Maintenance Agency will be under your direct administration.
And finally, you’ve operated as the attorney general, so the ministry of justice will also be under your administration”.
“Our people expect so much from us because to whom much is given, much is expected. Makinde further assured, “As we also know, this is the campaign season, but here in Oyo state, we will continue to work for the good people of Oyo state throughout this season. So, your Excellency, we look forward to benefiting from your work and experience because we want to move our people from poverty to prosperity”.
Reacting on the news that the deputy governor is 76 years old as reported on many platforms (not Oyoaffairs), the governor said:
“You know we are in the season of fake news and I saw rumours on social media that we are going to swear in a 76-year old man as the deputy governor of Oyo state. Well they just read your profile…and you are far from 76”.
PROFILE OD OYO STATE DEPUTY GOVERNOR : BARRISTER ABDULRAHEEM ADEBAYO ADELEKE LAWAL
– Born to the Muslim family of Mr. Lawal of Agbo Compound Koso Area in Kishi town area of Oke-Ogun sixty-eight years ago.
– Barrister Lawal had two Bachelor degrees from the Prestigious University of Ibadan. First one in Economics and the Second is from Law respectively.
– Baba Bayo Lawal has fondly called by his Kishi people got married to Mrs. Ajibike Lawal who retires as a Zonal Manager in the Banking Industry.
– In 1999 after the election victory of Chief Lam Adesina, he was appointed as the Hon. Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General to Oyo State. The position he held till 2003.
– Baba Bayo Lawal has aspired to contest for Oyo North Senatorial District Position in 3 different elections : 2003 -AD, 2007 – AC and 2019 -ADC.
– Baba is known for many humanitarian, and as a veteran lawyer, community developer, and a man of influence, he was honored by the Iba of Kishi HRM Iba Kishi Arowoduye II as Aare Baamofin of Kishiland alongside his wife as Yeye Baamofin of Kishiland.
– Until his new appointment as the Oyo State Deputy Governor today, he was Chairman, Oyo State Housing Corporation, Ibadan.
– Chief Barrister Bayo Lawal is a man of great personality, very selfless and vibrant politician. His prowess academically and by extension cultural is very high.
