The Iwo-Road bus Terminals in Oyo State will be ready for use by motorists and commuters travelling between Iwo-road and other parts of the country by February 2024, according to the Oyo State Government. These terminals consist of two large structures located in a central area with a pedestrian bridge connecting them, a spacious parking area, and modern facilities.
During an inspection of the projects, Professor Dahud Kehinde Sangodoyin, the Commissioner for Public Works and Transport, revealed that Governor Seyi Makinde initiated the construction of these terminals to enhance the state’s transportation system and create terminals that can compete with modern facilities around the world. The state government has been focused on modernizing infrastructure since the current administration took office.
Professor Sangodoyin explained that the governor’s goal is to improve the economy by creating a conducive environment for business and driving, which ultimately promotes productivity. He expressed optimism that the terminals will be completed by the end of February 2024, with work already underway on the gatehouse and most of the structures. Terminal one requires some additional work on the decking, while terminal two is undergoing rendering.
The commissioner emphasized the significance of the terminals as a major hub in Ibadan city, connecting various parts of the country, including the North, East, and other regions in the South-West. He also highlighted the safety features and amenities available at the terminals, such as a shopping complex, ample parking space, sitting areas, and modern conveniences. The government has implemented security measures to ensure the safety of vehicles and passengers.
The inspection also included the ongoing Junction Improvement at Yidi Gate and the Omololu Olunloyo Monumental Park junction. The commissioner directed the contractor to create an alternative route at Yidi Gate to alleviate traffic congestion in the area. Engineer Olatunde Raphael, the Technical Manager of Planning Project Limited, confirmed that the work on the terminals is 60% complete, with the critical structural framework nearing its final stages. He expressed confidence that the project would be completed on time with the government’s support.
