The All Progressives Congress, (APC) Publicity Secretary, Oyo State, Doctor Abdulazeez Olatunde has said that Governor ‘Seyi Makinde cannot claim all the credit for the sole ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso but must recognize the input of others vital to the effort such as the APC National Leader, Bola Tinubu.
He made these comments while reacting to questions posed to him about Governor Seyi Makinde’s education policy by Aanuoluwapo Omorinde on “Bottom Line”, a political radio program on IBR 92.5fm Ibadan over the weekend.
One of the questions put to him was whether the Oyo State APC would acknowledge the daring of Governor Makinde in winning the LAUTECH sole ownership for Oyo State to which he replied that he would give credit to the Oyo State administration if they acknowledged all who made it possible.
He said: “Emissaries were sent to Lagos on this matter to negotiate with the Osun State government but all of these, they will not say”.
“Do you think it is possible for Osun State government to concede ownership to Oyo State without the input of some people?”.
He alleged that the Seyi Makinde’s administration is struggling to honor certain terms reached with Osun state but has not yet made them public and also criticized the cancellation of the education levy in schools statewide, questioning the wisdom of the government doing that instead of just paying the WAEC fee instead.
“What is the essence of paying the annual levy of a child that cannot afford WAEC fee? Ajimobi paid the WAEC fee of the Students and go and check the record. With the three thousand naira, a Student will at the end of the day pay eighteen thousand naira for a period of six years. WAEC is presently charging twenty eight thousand naira so, which is better?”.
When he was asked about the economy and Oyo’s improved figures, he retorted that the outgoing APC administration left behind an IGR of 22-25 million naira which he claimed was much more than what was available when the APC came into power in Oyo State. He also advised Governor Seyi Makinde to study the handover report left by the last government saying it contained all he needed to succeed.
Also present on the program was the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, Engineer Akeem Olatunji who denied Dr. Olatunde’s claims, saying that Bola Tinubu deserved no accolades over the LAUTECH issue.
In his words: “I am an Alumnus of that great Institution. I belong to the second set of that citadel of learning and so, I know much about that Institution.”
“As the Pro-Chancellor of LAUTECH what did Tinubu do? When that Institution was locked for about two years, what did he do? That is why someone like me can never support the presidential ambition of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu because I can’t see his effort”.
The PDP’s PRO also stated that with the way the Seyi Makinde-led administration is going, Oyo State will soon become one of the top Nigerian states in terms of IGR raised.
