LAUTECH Students Raise Alarm Over Incessant Robberies in Off-Campus Areas

Students of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) have been thrown into a state of fear and tension following recurring armed robbery incidents in the school’s vicinity.

The robbers, suspected to be herders, have been accused of breaking into private hostels near the university, stealing phones, laptops, and other valuables.

Students have taken to various social media platforms to lament the situation, expressing that it has become almost impossible to sleep peacefully. The robbers have reportedly targeted areas such as Adenike and Under-G, where their invasions have been most frequent.

In interviews with journalists, students revealed that the assailants are armed with dangerous weapons, including guns and machetes, further heightening their anxiety.

Meanwhile, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. Fadeyi, issued a statement on Thursday evening addressing the situation. While he acknowledged that there have been isolated cases of armed robbery by unidentified persons, he debunked the severity of the reports and sought to allay students’ fears. He emphasized that the university is working with security agencies and local government authorities to address the issue.
