Lekan Salami Stadium Reconstruction: Oyo PDP Shower Encomiums on Governor Makinde

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State’s reconstruction of the 10,000 capacity Lekan Salami stadium Ibadan has not gone unnoticed as stakeholders and Members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state have spoken in glowing terms about him.

Calling him an “Engineer ” of progress, the Oyo state chapter of PDP in a press release published on Sept. 1 2021 said that Engr Makinde has engaged in this project which in the long run will rekindle the sporting Spirit in the state.

The State Publicity Secretary of the party Engr Akeem Olatunji who signed the press statement, said that the Lekan Salami stadium has been in a deteriorating state prior to the coming of the incumbent governor who has now given a facelift to the stadium which has been a home to the famous Shooting Stars Sports Club Ibadan for years.

The Party, added that, the reconstruction of the stadium is a step in the right direction which can help catapult the internally generated revenue of the state to a better position than it is now while also helping in exposing the hidden talents in the area of Sports in the state.

Furthermore, the party likened the reconstruction od the stadium as well as other developmental strides by the state governor tp the glowing achievements of the former Premier of the old Western region, Chief Obafemi Awolowo and they nicknamed the governor the “Starboy” of the party and the Awolowo of the present day Oyo.

In their words “Our Joy as a people and as the ruling party has no bounds as the entire state prepares to witness the official commissioning of the Lekan Salami stadium which has been the official stadium of Shooting Stars Sports Club now 3SC FC for years and had at one point provided unspeakable motivation for different athletes making use of the sporting facility to dominate both national and continental sporting events but now living in its past glory.

They reminisced on the former state of the stadium and pointed out the effects that deplorable state had on the development and showcasing of talents both in 3SC FC and Oyo State as a whole, which has caused 3SC FC to fall from being a title contender in the Nigerian Premier League, to be a team in the Nigerian National League.

The Party Congratulated the governor on his achievements in the area of infrastructural development in the state and pledged their utmost support to the Governor Makinde led government as he leads the people of Oyo State to greater heights.

The Lekan Salami stadium Adamasingba, Ibadan was before its reconstruction by Governor Seyi Makinde, built in 1976 and now has an Olympic standard swimming pool, volleyball court and basketball court to name just a few.
