Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the disbursement of Five Hundred and Fifty-Four Million, Nine Hundred and Eighty-Nine Thousand Naira (₦554,989,000.00) as bursary allowances for undergraduate students from the state for the 2024/25 academic session. This announcement was made by the Chairman of the Oyo State Scholarship Board, Rt. Hon. Atilola Olawale, during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Board’s Conference Room within the Ministry of Education in Ibadan.
According to Olawale, a sum of Two Hundred and Fourteen Million, One Hundred and Thirty-Five Thousand Naira (₦214,135,000.00) has been allocated specifically for final-year Law students from Oyo State studying in public tertiary institutions across Nigeria. Additionally, Three Hundred and Forty Million, Eight Hundred and Fifty-Four Thousand Naira (₦340,854,000.00) has been approved for final-year undergraduates, Higher National Diploma (HND) students, as well as those studying Maritime and Aviation courses.
The screening process for undergraduate and other eligible students is scheduled to take place from Monday, 10th March, to Friday, 14th March 2025. Meanwhile, the screening for Law students will run from 17th to 20th March 2025. Olawale also revealed that plans are underway to extend the bursary scheme to final-year students pursuing the National Certificate in Education (NCE).
Rt. Hon. Atilola emphasised that the bursary initiative reflects Governor Makinde’s administration’s commitment to supporting Oyo State indigenes in their final years of tertiary education. He praised the governor for his dedication to advancing education in the state through such financial interventions.
Students who have registered for the bursary are encouraged to check their portal pages to confirm if they have been shortlisted. Those selected are required to visit the Oyo State Ministry of Education Secretariat with the following documents: their application form, Local Government Identification Certificate, admission letter, school ID card, and bank details, including the SWIFT/SORT code.
In his remarks, the President of the Federation of Oyo State Students Union (FOSSU), Comrade Alarape Ibrahim Ayinla, urged all shortlisted candidates to participate in the screening exercise, assuring them of a seamless and stress-free process.
