Makinde Hosts PDP Governors in Ibadan, calls for Constitution Amendment

Governor Seyi Makinde today hosted governors of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital for a meeting.

The governors, who arrived at the conference center around 1 p.m. in a coaster bus, immediately joined Governor Makinde for a closed-door session.

Revealing the outcome of the meeting via his Twitter handle (@seyiamakinde), Governor Seyi Makinde stated that the PDP collectively agreed to amend the current constitution currently used in the country, calling on the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to support state policing.

The meeting, which was presided over by the chairperson of the PDP Governors Forum, Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto state, also covered the state of security in Nigeria extensively.

Governor ‘Seyi Makinde shared; “At the PDP Governors’ Forum in Ibadan today, we discussed various national issues: state policing, restructuring, ranching, and the Electoral Act. We called on the President to send an executive bill to the National Assembly to amend the constitution to provide for state policing.”

“We also called for the restructuring of the Nigerian Federation to devolve more powers and functions to the states. We supported the position taken by various stakeholders to adopt ranching as the most viable solution to the herders-farmers clashes in Nigeria.”

“Finally, we restated our earlier call on the National Assembly to expedite action on the passage of the Electoral Act that will ensure free and fair elections including provision for electronic accreditation and transmission of votes.”

The governors present at the meeting: Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Bala Mohammed (Bauchi); Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa); Nyesom Wike (River); Samuel Ortom (Benue); Aminu Waziri Tambuwal (Sokoto); Ifeanyi Okowa (Delta); Udom Emmanuel (Akwa Ibom); Douye Diri (Bayelsa); Godwin Obaseki (Edo) and Mahdi Mohd, Deputy Governor (Zamfara).
