Makinde, Oyo Speaker, Others Receive Impact Awards as Oyo Commences Implementation of VAPP Law

The Westminster Foundation for Democracy, (WFD) at the public presentation of the VAPP Law in Ibadan, has presented Impact Awards to the Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde and the Speaker of the State Assembly, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the Passage, Assent, Gazetting and Execution (PAGE) of Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law, VAPP in Oyo state.

The VAPP Law was passed in Oyo state on the 28th of December, 2020 making the state one of the firsts in the country, to pass the bill into law.

Governor ‘Seyi Makinde whose award was received by his wife , Mrs Tamunominni Makinde said Oyo state has set the pace again, especially by being among the foremost states to pass, assent, gazette commence the implementation of VAPP Law.

Also presented with Impact Awards for their efforts and support in the passage of VAPP Law were; member representing Ogbomoso North State Constituency who doubles as the Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs and Community Development, Hon Bimbo Olawumi Oladeji; managements and staff of the State Ministries of Justice and Women Affairs and Social Inclusion.

Speaking on the significance of the law, Governor Makinde said the VAPP law is meant to protect the citizens of Oyo state against every form of violence, hence the need for everyone to be aware of its existence and provisions.

Earlier the Speaker, Hon Adebo Ogundoyin said the VAPP Law which was enacted by the National Assembly in 2015 has now been domesticated by thirty-one out of the thirty-six states of the federation.
