Oyo State Governor, ‘Seyi Makinde on Wednesday, launched the N200 Million British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) Farmers Fund, a development in partnership with IITA Ibadan.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Hon. Segun Ogunwuyi, Makinde revealed that the N200M Farmers Fund is a step taken by the BATN Foundation in partnership with IITA, to provide financial and technical support to ex-tobacco farmers who were affected by the decision to discontinue tobacco cultivation, so as to transition them to sustainable arable farmers.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, Ogunwuyi wrote, “I was pleased to officially launch N200 Million British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) Farmers Fund on behalf of His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE.
“On behalf of his excellency, I urged BATN to ramp up efforts for continued improvements in the livelihoods of farmers and other stakeholders along the value chain and also assure them the commitment of this administration in providing enabling environment for private sectors.”
