Oyo state governor, Seyi Makinde has been awarded the all-Round Personality of 2020. He and many other notable Yorubas were rewarded with different awards for being an outstanding son and daughter of Oduduwa by the United Kingdom (UK) chapter of Yoruba Leaders’ Forum (YLF).
Governor Makinde, alongside Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu, activist-journalist Richard Akinnola and 32 others were honoured as Distinguished Personalities by the forum.
Sanwo-Olu was awarded based on his outstanding performance during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020; a former lawmaker, Chief Ladi Adebutu; a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa; a cleric, Rev. Temitayo Ogunmefun and the others were among those honoured for excelling in their respective profession.
Other awardees include: Olutoyin Eweje, Oludare Akande, Mrs. Janet Faremi, Ms. Olabisi Atanda, Dare Lasisi, Samson Akinola, Matt Duncan (an American honoured for projecting the Yoruba culture), Olufemi Somotun, Garbadeen Olabode, Ms. Ganiat Abiodun, Ms. Omobola Oguntayo, Ms. Yemi Adeyemo, Mrs. Bukola Ajala, Abiodun Paseda, and Yemi Adenuga, a councillor in Ireland.
A statement issued by representatives of the YLF; Olufemi Ogunjimi, Muyiwa Onabanjo and Wasiu Banjo of the YLF stated that the awards were in recognition of the honorees’ achievements and to also encourage others to emulate them.
