National Engineering Association Confers Fellow Status on Oyo Deputy Governor




The Deputy Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan has been inducted into the fellowship of the Nigerian Association for Engineering Geology and the Environment (NAEGE).

The conferral of Fellow of the Nigerian Association for Engineering Geology and Environment was done during the 6th annual Conference of the Association held at the International Conference Centre of the University of Ibadan recently.

Speaking during the investiture, Engineer Olaniyan who is a civil engineer by training said that geological engineers should not be underrated especially as no one can build a good house without having to know what kind of earth fits the building.

He further appreciated the association for conferring on him their most prestigious award as he pledged his commitment to the organization and to be a good representative making a case for them when the need arises.

The number two man in the executive arm of the Oyo State government reemphasised the fact that the Seyi Makinde led administration is ready and determined to put an end to the alarming cases of collapsed buildings in the state as they are ready to work with experts in the state of to achieve this goal.

He advised that the organisation put their recommendations on different engineering related issues in the state in writing and that the association should be ready to assist the government in putting an end to the numerous structural issues in the state.

Meanwhile, Mr Fidelis Abija, the guest speaker at the event lamented the lack of inclusion of geologists in building and structures projects in the state as this hinders the professionals from bringing their expertise to bear in the State.

He further appealed for collaboration between other Engineering Associations In the State and NAEGE.
