Nigerians have rallied to the aid of veteran Yoruba actress, Margaret Bandele Olayinka, popularly known as Iya Gbonkan, after she cried out for help. Last month, the actress revealed that despite acting for decades, she did not own a car and had to rely on buses to get around. She called on her fans to celebrate her while she was still alive and not wait until after her death. Following her plea, Iya Gbonkan has received over N5 million from kind-hearted Nigerians, including Nollywood actresses Abeni Agbon and Tamotiye.

According to reports, Pastor Gabriel watched Iya Gbonkan’s video and immediately put a call through to her. He then visited her in Osogbo and began sourcing funds from people all over the world to help make her dream of owning a car and a house a reality. So far, over N5 million has been donated to the veteran actress’s cause.

Nollywood actresses Abeni Agbon and Tamotiye, who live nearby Iya Gbonkan, also contributed to the fundraising efforts. They donated N500k to the veteran actress’s cause. Their contribution was warmly received by Iya Gbonkan, who thanked them for their generosity.
