The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, Arusa 1 has cautioned newly installed Mogajis and Baales in Ibadanland against forcefully acquiring women or landed properties, stressing that such acts are illegal and punishable under the law.

Ladoja, a former governor and senator of Oyo State, gave the warning on Monday during the installation of traditional title holders at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan.

The installation ceremony, which drew members of the Olubadan-in-Council, political office holders, traditional leaders, and other dignitaries, saw the elevation of 15 Mogajis (family heads) and seven Baales (village heads) across Ibadanland.

Among those installed were Chief Tolulope Akinkunmi Afolabi as Mogaji of Agunbiade compound in Alaadorin Ode Aje area, Chief Sijuola Rasaq Ajibola as Mogaji of Looyin compound in Oke Offa Atipe area, and Chief Wasiu Lawal as Mogaji of Obebe Odugunwa compound in Oke Oluokun area.

Speaking through the Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, the Olubadan urged the newly installed traditional rulers to discharge their duties with the fear of God, noting that they serve as direct representatives of the throne in their respective domains.

He emphasised that maintaining peace, security, and the welfare of the people must remain their top priority, while also encouraging inclusive leadership and respect for existing hierarchies within their communities.

“You must respect those who were in these positions before you, as they are your seniors. Take charge of your domains responsibly and ensure that any issues are reported to the Olubadan,” he said.

The monarch further advised them to allow open participation during meetings and avoid imposing decisions on their people, stressing that leadership must be guided by fairness and consultation.

Reiterating his stance against illegal practices, Ladoja warned that land grabbing and forceful relationships would not be tolerated in Ibadanland.

“Do not take other people’s wives or lands illegally. The Olubadan does not tolerate land grabbing. It is against the law to acquire other people’s wives or lands unlawfully, and anyone found culpable will be prosecuted,” he added.
