NSCDC deploys 150 personnel in Oyo State to Counter Terrorism

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) has deployed 150 personnel in its relaunched Counter Terrorism Unit (CTU) in Oyo state. This according to the state’s Commandant Iskilu Akinsanya is to arrest the occurrence of clashes between cattle herders and crop farmers in the state.

The Commandant stated that the rising need of security operatives in the state has necessitated the relaunch of the under-utilized unit. He also stated that the re-launched unit will be synergizing with different security stakeholders and employ Technology to bring about normalcy in the area.

“We are relaunching the unit now and we will partner with the 2 Division, Nigerian Army, for further training. “We are having about 150 personnel from this unit that will be deployed to various locations in Oyo State to tackle herders and farmers’ clashes, and other insecurity issues. “They will work with the Agro Rangers, which has been upgraded; we are now into the use of electronic devices for urgent security information and not only relying on the use of human security,’’ he said

Akinsanya said the deployed corps would work tirelessly to ensure that insecurity in the state is reduced to its minimum. He also hinted about the commission’s intent to launch additional commands in hotspots such as Saki, Kishi and Egbeda and also inject security experts who will bring in fresh ideas to Divisional headquarters of the commission.

The commandant thereby appealed to community leaders to work with the security agencies to identify people living in their communities.

“The communities know the criminals among them and should cooperate with the security agencies in fishing them out. Security is the responsibility of all and not for the government alone,” he said.
