Oyo Govt Pays 76 Retirees N180m Pension Arrears

The Oyo State Government, on Monday, paid another set of 76 retirees to make the payment of the arrears of accrued gratuity cover June 2012 to August 2013.

This brings the amount paid by the Makinde-led administration to a total of three billion, four hundred and twenty million naira clearing the years 2012- 2013 unpaid gratuity.

The Commissioner for Establishment and Training, Alh. ‘Siju Lawal who made this disclosure while presenting gratuity cheques to retirees for the month of August 2013 held at the Ministry’s Conference Hall in Ibadan explained that as at May 2019 when the present administration came in, the State Government inherited unpaid gratuity debt of about N28billion from the previous administration for the outstanding from year 2012.

The Commissioner stated that the monthly release of N180million has helped to pay the whole of year 2012 gratuity, adding that the payment has stretched to the month of August 2013, as is always paid according to merit.

Lawal further disclosed that the Ministry of Establishment and Training is in the process of making all records and information about retirees accessible in electronic computed form as demanded by Governor Makinde, to avoid loss of documents and make the process faster

He subsequently advised beneficiaries of the gratuity to invest wisely, be prudent in spending and live peacefully with others to enjoy a healthy and fulfilled life.

He said, “This is another day of joy to our retirees that are benefiting from this quater’s payment of their gratuity.

“We believe they have gained one thing or the other from many trainings given by the government about life after retirement and how to survive the life of investments and private businesses.

“As demanded by the governor to aid accountability, avoid loss of vital data and to make the processing of documentation faster, we are starting electronic computation of the data soon.”

In their remarks, the beneficiaries appreciated the State Government for its hand of love in the payment of outstanding gratuity, and prayed that the Governor Seyi Makinde led administration will succeed in all its citizens-friendly policies
