NUJIC Announces 2022 Press Week With a Road Walk and Fitness Activities

Nigeria Union of Journalist, Information Chapel, (NUJIC) on Tuesday embarked on a road walk, to call on its members and journalists across the country to be involved in a regular physical exercise.

The Chapel’s Chairman, Comrade Fasasi Ismail, stated this in Ibadan on Tuesday during the walk, as part of activities lined up for the Chapel’s Week.

According to him, the road walk and exercise which took place within the State Secretariat would keep members fit and enhance the performances of their duties.

“The essence of the walk is to ensure that journalists are physically fit to carry on with their constitutional responsibilities because, most times, journalists do not have time to exercise or go to hospital for medical checkup.

“They are so busy on the job. From morning to night, they are all over the places doing their work. So, we thought it wise to do the walk which is a form of exercise to enhance physical fitness and healthy well-being.

“I also want to call on journalists to also involve in physical exercise to keep fit, be healthy and perform better on the job,” Fasasi added.

In her remarks, the Oyo State Head of Service, Alhaja Ololade Ayoola, enjoined the members of NUJIC to use their profession to sensitise the general public on importance of election as their civic rights.

She admonished the members to be good watchdogs that will ensure that the general public are being given the truth.

She equally urged them to imbibe the ethics of civil service and make the rule and regulations their guides.

“Let people be aware of what they should do. Use this week to go into communities to mobilise and let people be aware that it is their civic right to participate in this election. It must also be a peaceful election.

“I like the topic of the lecture, which is ‘The role of Media as watchdog and gatekeepers in the general elections’. How do you want to be a watchdog? Do you wish to be the negative or positive watchdog? You just have to pick one but play your role to ensure that the society within which we live in and work is sustained.

“We don’t want to have elections that will be cancelled due to a report from your members. So, I want to use this opportunity to wish the NUJIC and we will still continue to pass on the torch.

“Always remember that for you to be a member of this Chapel, you must have been a civil servant. Remember the ethics of the civil service in whatever you do as this will guide your conduct everyday”, she stated.
