Muslim in Ogbomoso part of Oyo State has called for prompt intervention in the imam tussle rocking the town to prevent further escalation.
The Muslim community, in a statement signed by its chairman, Alhaji Akintoye AbdusSalam Olla, called on the authorities to restore peace and stability in the community.
It alleged that the actions of the Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Olaoye, were sparking tensions within the Muslim community and deepening the crisis threatening the peace of the town.
The Muslim community also alleged that the traditional ruler was acting in disregard to a peace agreement facilitated by the chairman of Ogbomoso North Local Government and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters which advocated maintaining the status quo over the imamship of the town.
It said the decision of Oba Olaoye to turban a “rival palace imam” might cause division among the Ogbomoso Muslim Ummah.
“The Muslim community is increasingly agitated, and community elders are making efforts to maintain peace. The followership of the Grand Chief Imam transcends all boundaries, making this a potential national security issue requiring swift attention.
“The Ogbomoso Muslim Community urges prompt intervention to prevent further escalation.
“We call on the authorities to take immediate action and restore peace and stability to the community,” the statement said.
