Old Oyo National Park Arrests Seven Poachers, Secures Conviction of Eleven Others

In a bid to rid the Old Oyo National Park of illegal activities of hunting, fishing, mining and cattle grazing which tend to disrupt the park’s conservation and protection mandate, the Conservator of Park, Mr Teslim Adeniyi – Kareem has said that eleven illegal miners have been prosecuted and convicted, apart from others like hunters and cattle grazers, who are at their various stages of prosecution

Giving insight into some arrests made while parading seven suspects, the CP said the paraded suspects would soon be arraigned in court along with the roasted animals killed in the park, guns and swords found in their possession.

The CP, who appreciated the logistic support provided by the Conservator General of the National Park Service, Dr Ibrahim Musa Goni also called for cooperation of the host communities in Oyo State to enable the park to actualise its objectives.

In the meantime, the Senate has approved the establishment of ten more national parks as requested by President Muhammadu Buhari, to make a total of seventeen in the country.
