Olubadan-Designate, Olakulehin Physically ill, Otun Reveals

The Olubadan-designate, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, has been revealed to be physically ill and unfit to rule as the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland.

The Otun-Balogun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Abimbola Ajibola, disclosed this information on Tuesday. The Olubadan stool became vacant following the passing of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, who ruled for two years and passed away at the age of 81.

Olakulehin, if appointed, would be one of the oldest monarchs to assume the position. Ajibola, speaking at a briefing at his Sanyo private residence in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, emphasized the importance of allowing the Olubadan-Designate time to recover before being officially declared.

He stated, “What is the rush? We have not even seen him. He has not communicated with us or the people of Ibadan. As his second in command, he has not reached out to me to indicate his return. So, why the pressure to appoint him when it seems to serve only their own interests.”
