OYACA Uncovers Massive Contract Fraud Worth N4.8 Billion

Justice Eni Esan, the head of the Oyo state Anti-graft agency, claimed on Friday in Ibadan that the agency is currently investigating a massive Contract fraud in the state.

She declared that the funds were allegedly supplied to various contractors in 2018 to carry out specific projects.

The OYACA chairperson made the revelations during a press conference on Friday in Ibadan to commemorate International Anti-Corruption Day.

Esan observed that corruption is a persistent issue that harms Nigeria’s economy and has an impact on all facets of society.

According to her, eliminating corruption in Oyo State would aid the state’s and Nigeria’s overall development.

The chairperson said that the agency had achieved a lot in fighting corruption and curbing corruption practices since its operation in April 2021, vowing it would continue its job until corruption is eradicated in the state.

According to her, the agency has so far received more than 136 petitions on various corruption issues, all of which have undergone complete investigations and some of which have been sent to the State Attorney-General for possible prosecution.

Ms Esan stated that the agency had completed its investigations on 43 petitions, 40 were still under investigation, and 28 had been dropped by the petitioners.

She added that eight petitions had investigations completed and had been sent for the prosecution to the State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice.

Five of them are already in court undergoing prosecution, she said.

The chairman said the agency recently handed over the money to 17 petitioners from Ogbomoso who were defrauded by some government officials.

She promised that the organisation would carry out its constitutional role in the future without bias or influence from anyone.

In order for the agency to efficiently carry out its tasks, Ms. Esan urged all Oyo State residents to take responsibility for fighting corruption as a community.
