The Oyo State House of Assembly has granted approval for Governor Seyi Makinde’s proposal to issue a bond aimed at the redevelopment of the Agbowo Shopping Complex in Ibadan.
The decision followed the reading of the Governor’s request on the floor of the House by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
In the letter, Governor Makinde outlined that the remodelling project is intended to stimulate business activities and increase internally generated revenue for Oyo State.
The Agbowo Shopping Complex, a key commercial centre, has faced considerable decline over the years.
Speaker Ogundoyin highlighted the significance of preserving the complex as an integral part of Oyo State’s heritage, noting that it was once one of the largest shopping malls in the region.
The Deputy Speaker, Hon. Muhammad Abiodun Fadeyi, and Hon. Babajide Gabriel Adebayo (Ibadan North 2) also voiced their support for the initiative.
Hon. Adebayo praised Governor Makinde for addressing the concerns of his constituents, particularly those in the vicinity of the complex.
The redevelopment is anticipated to restore the complex to its former prominence and revitalise economic activity in the area and Ibadan as a whole.
