Oyo Govt Pledges Continuous Commitment to Advancing State Education Sector

The Oyo state government has reiterated that it will not relent on it efforts at formulating effective education policy reforms.

Speaking during a collaborative post-education summit in Ibadan on Wednesday, Mr Rahman Abdulraheem, the State Commissioner for Education, pledged the state government’s continuous collaboration with researchers and development partners in the provision of evidence-based education policy reforms.

The summit which was organised by the Centre for the Study of the Economies of Africa (CSEA) with Research on Improving Systems of Education (RISE), had in attendance about 50 persons who deliberated and proffered  suggestions on possible policy strategies that would advance the state education sector.

Ably represented by Alhaji Aminat Atere, the Permanent Secretary in the Education Ministry, Abdulraheem said that developing education required adequate funding.

He noted that developing education in the state could only be achieved through a multi-sectoral approach and corporate partnership in funding education.

The commissioner therefore noted that the state government would not relent in ensuring that education was accessible to all, in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Earlier, Dr Adedeji Adeniran, CSEA Director of Research, said that the major objective of the summit was to thoroughly impact on the process of learning in the school system and ensuring stakeholders’ participation.

Adeniran said that efforts should be made beyond mere educational development in the state.

Also, Emeka Nweke, the CSEA Research Associate, said the state government needed to put more efforts at ensuring accessibility to education, provision of infrastructure and security.

QNweke said that efforts of the state government was necessary considering the results of a research conducted in some selected schools across local government areas in the state.
